Lottie Dod began playing tennis at the age of 11. She quickly showed a natural talent for the game and won her first tournament at the age of 15. In 1887, she made her Wimbledon debut and reached the final. The following year, she won the Wimbledon championship, becoming the youngest-ever winner at the age of 15 years and 285 days.

Lottie Dod went on to win Wimbledon five times, in 1887, 1888, 1891, 1892, and 1893. She also won the British Open Championship in 1893 and 1894.

Golf Career

In addition to her tennis career, Lottie Dod was also an accomplished golfer. She won the British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship in 1893 and 1895. She also represented Great Britain in the first women's international golf match against the United States in 1902.

Hockey and Archery Careers

Lottie Dod was also a talented hockey player. She played for the England national team and helped them win the gold medal at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London.

In addition to tennis, golf, and hockey, Lottie Dod was also an accomplished archer. She won the British Ladies Archery Championship in 1891 and 1892.

Personal Life and Legacy

Lottie Dod retired from competitive sports in 1903. She married Henry Esmond in 1908 and had two children. She continued to play sports recreationally and remained active in the sporting community.

Lottie Dod died on June 27, 1960, at the age of 88. She is remembered as one of the greatest female athletes of all time. Her achievements paved the way for future generations of women in sports.
