Early life and career

Declan Kirby was born in County Mayo, Ireland, in 1994. He began playing Gaelic football at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks. He made his senior debut for Mayo in 2013 and was part of the team that won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in 2017. Kirby also represented Ireland at the International Rules Series in 2017 and 2018.

Move to Europe

In 2019, Kirby decided to try his luck in European football. He signed a contract with Spanish club CD Numancia. Kirby made his debut for Numancia in the Segunda División B, the third tier of Spanish football. He scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win over UD Logroñés. Kirby went on to make 25 appearances for Numancia, scoring 5 goals.

Loan to Germany

In January 2020, Kirby was loaned to German club FC Ingolstadt 04. He made his debut for Ingolstadt in the 3. Liga, the third tier of German football. Kirby scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win over SpVgg Unterhaching. He went on to make 15 appearances for Ingolstadt, scoring 4 goals.Kirby's performances in Germany caught the attention of several higher-level clubs. In the summer of 2020, he signed a contract with Bundesliga club SC Freiburg. Kirby made his debut for Freiburg in the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup. He scored his first goal for the club in a 4-1 win over SV Waldhof Mannheim.

Kirby is hoping to build on his success in Germany and eventually play in the UEFA Champions League. He is still only 26 years old and has plenty of time to achieve his goals. If he can continue to perform at a high level, there is no reason why he cannot one day play in the biggest club competition in the world.
